The English medium school which was started in K. R. Nagara, served the educational needs of the upper class society of the town. Bethany wanted to open the doors of its educational institution also for the underprivileged. Thus under the leadership of Sr Trina the Superior, Kannada Medium school was initiated in 1988 with 74 students. It was the joint effort of Sr Sylvine, Superior General and president of BES, Sr Jyoti the Secretary of BES and Sr Tina the headmistress of Primary school.
The Education Department encouraged this initiative and gave recognition immediately. Sr Amy, Sr Sharlet and Sr Lydia have toiled hard to bring up this school catering the needs of the poor. Sr Lydia, who was headmistress from 2007 onwards, took keen interest in admitting the school to grant-in-aid with the help of our Deputy Secretary Sr Jeevan. Under their leadership and hard work the school got grant-in- aid in the year 2012. Since then it works as independent school, participating actively in all the activities of the educational department independently.
Our children are privileged to have free books, mid-day meal facility from the Government. Government has provided us a kitchen for the mid-day meal cooking. All kinds of scholarships are availed to our students.
Sr Mary Divya is the headmistress from 2014 onwards. Under her guidance teachers are active and take keen interest in teaching students specially the slow learners. Since the school is in English medium School premises the place is congested and therefore the need for a separate school building was felt.
As the years pass by strength in Kannada medium school is decreasing. It is a challenge for us to retain the strength. Knowing this plight, we have begun computer classes from class one. English is given priority. We hope against hope for the survival of Kannada Medium School in this era of English fad!
