Since its inception in the year 1986, Bethany Convent High School, a co-educational institute situated at Sao Jose de Areal in Salcete Taluk, established by the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany has made spectacular progress in different spheres of education for the uplift of the poor students of this locality. During its early formative years, due to the initiative of Fr Antonio Fernandes, Sr Agnella, Sr Lumina and the parishioners the school overcame all obstacles. Subsequently with the permission of the Archbishop of Goa, the Bethany Educational Society, Mangalore laid a strong foundation and sowed the seeds of education in this rural area, resulting in its rapid growth, development and progress. The school was granted recognition by the Goa Government on 31 July 1987.
With a dedicated and committed team of staff members and the infrastructure facilities like a well maintained school building, library, playground, science laboratory, computer room, a hall, children’s park, and an open-air stage, the school is taking gigantic steps to become one of the ideal schools in South Goa District. It provides various opportunities for the staff and students to further strengthen their God-given talents in academics and co-curricular activities. This year the performance of the eleventh SSCE batch was remarkable. The students also excel in inter-school sports, science and other competitions. The teachers attend the orientation courses, seminars and workshops conducted for their benefit by the concerned authorities. Various cultural activities and educational programmes were organized in the School to mark the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Bethany Educational Society.
It is a matter of great joy to count the blessings of Bethany in Goa. Although people in this area are economically poor they are rich in their faith and belief in God. So far 12 girls have dedicated themselves to the service of humanity through Bethany and four boys have joined the priesthood.
Our humble prayer is that our Bethany may continue to grow in number and merit, spreading the news far and wide so that it becomes an effective instrument for the extension of God’s Kingdom in this world.
