1.    Establishment and Initial Stage
Orphanages, hostels and children’s homes were the integral part of Bethany’s ministries right from its foundation. The compassionate heart of the Founder Mgr. RFC Mascarenhas, had a special love for the parentless, destitute, poor and downtrodden children.  So on 1st November 1935, on the feast of All Saints, an orphanage was opened and blessed in Kinnigoli by by the Founder in the presence of Mother Martha, Sr. Josephine and Sr Margaret and named as Maryvale Orphanage. There were 08 orphans at the time of opening and Sr Veronica was the first Warden of the orphanage. Sr. Raphael was the Superior.  Initially they were accommodated in a rented house of Dr. J M Lobo called, Mary Villa.
Maryvale orphanage was a boon for the girl children of far and near. Girls from remote places got an opportunity to get education in our own Institutions.
The formation of the children in our orphanage in Christian faith and educational excellence was considered as one of the prime concerns. The orphanage was a seed of vocation to our own Congregation, as the girls were inspired by the dedicated service of the sisters, specially the Wardens.

2.    Strength and Stability
Maryvale Orphanage was officially recognized in 1948-49 and is under the Bethany Educational Society, Mangalore. Later, the Inspecting Officer suggested changing the name of Maryvale orphanage as Maryvale Hostel in order to obtain more aid for maintenance from the department of Backward Classes and Minorities.
The sanctioned strength by the Govt. is 73. At present there are only 40 children, out of which 06 are Catholics, 18 Christians and 16 Hindus. These children are of different age group, studying I Classes I – X in our Little Flower Pry. and High School. The strength of the hostel is declining year by year.  Sr Vithalia is the present Warden of the Hostel assisted by Sr. Honora.
Sr Vithalis Lobo is the Correspondent.

Govt. Aid:  There are two separate buildings for the children- one for Maryvale Orphanage and another for Maryvale Hostel. Since these institutions are recognized by the Govt., orphanage children get Rs. 600/- per head and hostel children get Rs. 750/- per head as maintenance grant on monthly basis. All the other expenses are met by the management. A few people of the locality offer help either in cash or kind.
