It was a dream of Northern Province to have an English Medium School for the welfare of the tribal children in or around Ranchi. When His Eminence Telesphore P. Cardinal Toppo invited us to acquire the land at Ushamatu, Ratu Block, Ranchi Dist. from Mr. Antony Joseph, the proprietor of St. Jude’s International School who was running a school successfully for few years, and was compelled to close the same because of the dispute between the proprietor and the villagers. Initially the Province hesitated because the land was not mutated and it was under dispute. But then His Eminence agreed to sort out the problem and purchase the same in the name of the diocese.  Hence the diocese purchased the land, got the land mutated and then sold the same to the Province for which we are grateful.

On 8 August, 2006, a piece of Tribal land (Plot No. 251) measuring 0.72 acres was purchased from Pahan and Munda brothers viz. Mahadev Pahan, Nanku Pahan, Sarhul Pahan, Birsa Pahan, Dugraj Munda and Lagnu Munda. Another piece of Tribal land measuring 1.07 acres (Plot No. 755) touching the main property at the western side was also purchased on 25 May 2009 from Mr. Simon Tirkey. The property was purchased with an old building used for the school and the same was renovated for the purpose of classroom and for the residence of sisters at the cost of Rs. 5,00,000/- presently we have up to class VII.

The people of Ushamatu and surrounding villages are quite happy and grateful for the opportunity given to their children to study in a good English Medium school run by the Bethany sisters. Sr. Maria Nancy and Sr. Laveena were sent to do the spade work in contacting people and keeping ready for the starting of the school. The school was blessed and opened on 19 March 2010 on the feast of St. Joseph, father and protector of Bethany. The school and residential quarters of sisters was formally inaugurated and blessed on 7 July by Sr. Maria Leena, the Provincial Superior and His Eminence Telesphore P. Cardinal Toppo. He also celebrated the Eucharist and blessed the foundation stone for the new school building.  His advice, appreciation, encouragement boosted the morale of the sisters.

The school started with 6 students. On 10 May 2011 the construction of the new school building began. On 9 September 2011, Sr. Lillis the Asst. Superior General visited the School. On 7 December 2013 the School building was inaugurated by the then Superior General Sr. Wilberta and blessed by His Eminence Telesphore P. Toppo the Cardinal.  On 1 April 2014 Sr. Rose Celine the then BES Secretary visited and inspected the school along with her team. On 18 June 2016 Sr. Maria Nancy the then Principal handed over the charge to Sr. Savina Nanda. Under her leadership various activities are conducted both curricular and co-curricular. All the national and religious festivals are celebrated in the School. Various Competitions are conducted from time to time. Now the school strength has gone up to 612.
